First and Emergency Aid

The purpose of the First and Emergency Aid Program is to train qualified health technicians who are capable of identifying and resolving health issues in pre-hospital emergency medical services, providing basic and advanced life support to patients and the injured, recognizing all types of systemic trauma, and applying appropriate emergency responses. These technicians ensure the safe transportation of patients or injured individuals, who have received initial interventions, to hospitals via ambulance, and work collaboratively within a team. During their education in the First and Emergency Aid Program, students are trained in emergency aid and rescue operations, emergency patient care, patient care principles, bleeding control, establishing intravenous access, and administering certain basic medications. Additionally, they receive training in areas related to physical and body development, fire and fire safety, rescue operations, equipment usage, and behavioral sciences relevant to their profession. Their internships during the academic year will take place in the emergency departments of hospitals (Medical Faculty Hospital, SSK Hospital, State Hospital) and at 112 Ambulance stations. Students will be trained to strictly adhere to medical ethics and deontological rules, respect patient rights, and possess the mental and physical capabilities to perform their duties under any circumstances. Considering the loss of life and disabilities caused by deficiencies in first aid, rescue, and transportation services after accidents, the importance of this program becomes even more apparent. Legal regulations, as stated in the directives issued by the Ministry of Health for emergency departments, 112 centers, and ambulance services, require the employment of graduates from this program. Due to the increasing importance and effectiveness of this profession, job opportunities are quite broad. Graduates can find employment in 112 ambulances in the public sector, in private ambulance companies, or in the emergency departments of private hospitals. These personnel may also be responsible for driving ambulances, which are emergency aid vehicles, after completing safe driving training. Those who complete the program are awarded an “Associate Degree Diploma” and the title of “Emergency Aid Technician.”
